Hello again, what a busy twelve months we have had. The hottest and busiest Summer we can remember and the hardest we have worked in our life. Phew!
You will be pleased to know that we eventually did get our much needed other staff member. It took nearly 5 months of angst and correspondence with Immigration but we finally welcomed her back on the 11th of April. Thank goodness, we are able to rest easy now knowing we are back to being a competent and complete team again.
Our staff have been making the most of the quiet time, spring cleaning the rooms and preparing them for another great ski season.
It's hard to believe but Winter is here again. Lots of snow on the Mountains already and hardly any leaves left on the trees.
We are getting a lot of bookings coming in for the Winter so don't leave it too long to confirm your snow holiday. The internet makes it possible to instantly book from anywhere in the world, at any time and get instant confirmation too. Just remember, the best deals and prices are on our own secure website www.qma.co.nz
Our tuis and bellbirds are enjoying the sugar water feeders and the wax eyes and sparrows are here in abundance now too. We have gathered lots of organic apples from our fruit trees and hang apple kebabs in the trees in the back yard. It is almost a full time job keeping food up to them but we love the birdsong and watching them come and go whenever they feel like it. It is amazing how trusting they are of humans. We have photos of Hartley with a wild bird eating a slice of apple out of his hand last winter...We love them and I think they like us too!
We are getting great feedback on our adults only, no parties, no noise policy. Our guests appreciate that we care about their right to quiet enjoyment while they stay with us. It's the little things that make a big difference, for example we always transfer the phone to a cellphone now so the phone isn't ringing around the property anymore.
We had a quiet celebration yesterday. It was our 40th wedding anniversary as well as Petes birthday. He wont thank me for telling you how old he is, suffice to say that he has qualified for the free bus services for a few years now!
Finally in this post, I would like to thank you all for your kindness, compassion and understanding when our family was struggling with the sad passing of our Matriach, my lovely old Mum earlier this year. It was a very difficult time for us all and we hope our grief was not too obvious. I still miss her every day but am trying to get back into "think positive, be happy" mode because I know that is what she would tell me I need to do. Bless her.
It has been so long since I have updated my blog I nearly forgot to sign off and say goodbye properly...
Thank you for reading this.
Best wishes and good health to you all from The Smiths, in particular Dianne...
